June 20, 2024– Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands Ivy Lea Wharf Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
(IVY LEA) – On Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at 4:00 p.m., the Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands Council members, staff, M.P.P. Steve Clark, Kehoe Marine Construction, Greer Galloway Consulting Engineers, and representatives from the Thousand Islands Association held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Ivy Lea Wharf, to officially open the newly re-designed facility.
The project involved the replacement of the old wharf and floating docks with new structures. The new facility brings several improvements, including a re-oriented boat ramp that now allows straight-in water access and egress, eliminating the need for a 90° turn on the old ramp, thereby enhancing safety and convenience for boaters.
Mayor Corinna Smith-Gatcke stated, “The dock is more than just a structure; it represents Council’s commitment to our community, to protect community members with access to fire services, to enable those on the islands to have access to services and allow wonderful access for recreational opportunities on the water. On behalf of Council, I wish to thank everyone who helped make this project a reality. Our community will benefit from improved access to the St. Lawrence River and the natural beauty of the Thousand Islands Region.”

Wharf Replacement Update
Members of Council and Township staff toured the Ivy Lea Wharf December 4 2023 to view the progress made on the replacement project.
In addition to Greer Galloway, who oversaw the project, and Kehoe Marine, who is responsible for all construction at the site, the design of the new wharf was completed by JML Engineering from Thunder Bay.
The project was originally slated for completion by the end of November but is now expected to be completed in January 2024 due to delays in the supply chain for materials needed to finish the job.
The Ivy Lea Wharf Project involves the complete replacement of the old wharf and floating docks with new structures. Amongst the many improvements to the wharf, the location of the boat ramp has been reoriented to allow straight-in water access and egress rather than the ninety-degree turn on the old ramp. The project represents a $2.1 million (inclusive of Non-Rebatable HST) investment by the Township for the wharf design, construction, and oversight.
