The Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands is a lower-tier municipality as part of the upper tier of the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville.
The Township is the third largest municipality in the County (excluding the separated municipalities of Gananoque, Brockville and Prescott).
The Township keeps only $0.39 of every dollar collected from residents, with $0.21 being remitted to the Province for education and $0.40 to the County.
The County is responsible for arterial roads, county land use planning, health services and social services.
