As Canadians we face many emergency situations, from floods and ice storms to power outages and potential water supply problems. In the Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands our potential for emergencies is great due to our proximity to the following:
- busy highways such as Highways 401 and 15
- cargo and passenger trains crossing our Township on a daily basis
- the St. Lawrence River and many other local bodies of water
- pipelines that carry natural gas, petroleum products and crude oil products
- Canada/United States International Border

As a municipality we are mandated by the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act to be pro-active and consistent in our approach to emergency management. We have an Emergency Response Plan in place that is reviewed annually to ensure measures are taken to address risks within our community. We also run simulations to train and prepare staff for emergency situations. You are welcome to attend these sessions. Watch our News and Public Notices page for dates of upcoming simulations. |

Leeds and the Thousand Islands Fire Services need your assistance to keep private lanes/drives maintained so not only fire, but all emergency services can arrive without any undue restrictions to their access. Modern firefighting equipment is very large and in a rural setting such as ours, several pieces of equipment may be needed when responding to an emergency.
