Leeds and the Thousand Islands Council sets final 2025 Tax Rate

April 1, 2025, Lansdowne, ON – On January 13, 2025, the Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands (TLTI) Council, approved the 2025 Operating budget with a net tax levy requirement of $12,869,100. The Capital budget of $14,889,100 was also approved, contingent on successful grant applications.

With the recent passing of the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville (UCLG) budget and the accompanying adoption of its tax rates for 2025, TLTI was able to move forward with adopting its own 2025 Tax Rate By-law, as required by the Municipal Act.  This by-law enables the levying and collecting of property taxes.

The overall residential tax rate increase is 5.2% for 2025 compared to 2024.  This rate is made up of three components: TLTI tax rate, UCLG tax rate, and the Education tax rate as prescribed by the Province of Ontario.  This is summarized in the table below.

Based on the median Township residential assessment of $206,000, as reported by the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC), the overall 2025 residential tax rate results in an annual tax bill of $2,355 (2024 - $2,239.  This is an increase of $116 annually, or about $10 a month.  $71 of this increase is attributable to TLTI, and the other $45 to UCLG, as summarized in the table below:

Mayor Corinna Smith-Gatcke stated “With the passage of the United Counties’ budget, I am pleased that the Township’s overall residential rate is now finalized.” Mayor Smith-Gatcke further commented “I wish to thank Township staff and Council for their hard work to create the Township’s annual budget. The budget process is complicated and time consuming and, each year, I am proud of what staff and Council accomplish.”
