(Lyndhurst) -On Thursday, September 12, 2024, the Township of Leeds, the Thousand Islands (TLTI), and the Town of Gananoque hosted the annual Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) Recognition Event.
Representatives from OLG and Shorelines Casino Thousand Islands, and M.P.P. Steve Clark joined staff and council from both municipalities and representatives from local community groups that were grant recipients through the OLG funded Community Grants program under the Municipality Contribution Agreements.
Community Grant recipients included Big Brothers Big Sisters Leeds and Grenville, Frontenac Arch Biosphere, Gananoque Seniors Association, Lansdowne Agricultural Society, Lansdowne Seniors, Pride Alliance, Seeley’s Bay Area Residents Association, the Thousand Islands Association, Women Matters, and several others.
Since the Casino opened in 2002, TLTI and Gananoque have received more than $32 million each under the Municipality Contribution Agreements. The annual recognition event is an opportunity to acknowledge the OLG's contribution to the host communities.
“This event is an annual highlight for me. Along with council, I thank the OLG and Shorelines Casino for their work in supporting our communities through the revenue returned to the township and community and the opportunity to be a local employer. We will also have a chance to connect with our community groups, whose desire to enhance our communities and make a difference in the lives of others which is immensely appreciated”, stated Mayor Corinna Smith-Gatcke.
Mayor John Beddows stated, "The Town of Gananoque values our partnerships with OLG and Great Canadian Gaming's Shorelines Casino Thousand Islands on many levels. It would be difficult to overstate the importance of the Gaming Revenue as an element of our municipal finances, but in some ways, that importance can overshadow the significance of Great Canadian Gaming's day-to-day impact as an important local employer and a corporate citizen that is invested in contributing to our community at the grass-roots level. We look forward to working with both OLG and Great Canadian Gaming for years to come."
“Each and every year, 100 per cent of OLG profits are reinvested in Ontario to support provincial and local priorities,” said Kathleen Devine, OLG’s Senior Municipal Relations Manager. “OLG’s profits are hard at work in the Township of Leeds, the Thousand Islands (TLTI), and the Town of Gananoque and all across our province to build stronger communities. OLG is proud to see how the Town and Township are making investments in critical local infrastructure and vital municipal programs that benefit all its residents. Much appreciation goes to the employees at Shorelines Casino Thousand Islands whose contributions are also helping make the community that much better. When you play at an Ontario casino, you play for Ontario.”
